MSSL Santa Monica Bay provides 6th–12th grade students of MTAC Santa Monica Bay members with the opportunity to give service to the community through music.

MTAC Santa Monica Bay MSSL projects and opportunities include:
  • Programs and performances at retirement homes, hospitals, and other venues through community outreach recitals and concerts.
  • Fund-raising events to benefit music education organizations and community music schools serving at-risk children and youths.
  • Ambassador of Music assignments to promote music appreciation in the community.
  • Learning opportunities in volunteer non-profit event planning by assisting MTAC branch project/event chairs.
  • Leadership skill-building experience in a student-run organization with its own board of directors.

Participation in MTAC Santa Monica Bay MSSL may also fulfill the community service requirements of schools and other organizations.

Rules & Guidelines
for MSSL Performance Opportunities
  • Any solo or ensemble literature (for small chamber group).
  • Only one piano (or sometimes electronic keyboard) is available.
  • Performers must be in grades 6 & up; rising 6th graders welcome!
  • No minimum playing level, but students are expected to be polished with previous performance experience.
  • If you have any questions regarding the appropriateness of your literature, please contact Deborah H. How, MSSL Advisor.
  • Students/Parents are asked to please communicate with the MSSL Advisor through your Teacher.
Fees
  • NONE!
  • In addition, students earn Community Service Hours through the MSSL program.
Recital Etiquette & Dress Code
  • All performers must stay for the entirety of the recital program.
  • Dress code is nice recital attire. NO t-shirts, tank tops, jeans, shorts, mini skirts, clothing with branding logos, sneakers, Uggs, flip flops, etc.
  • Please note that we are invited guests of Ocean House for these special recitals.
